This article will show you exactly how to disable autoplay videos and save data. Once you have disabled, you have to play videos on your Chrome Browser manually. Now the method is the same for audio and video. You don’t need to download and install any plugin for this.

Disable Autoplay Videos in Chrome on Desktop

New Google Chrome options make it easy to stop autoplay videos by just muting them.

Now all you have to do is open Google Chrome Browser.

In the URL bar, copy this line and press Enter.

chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy

This will open settings that you have to change. From the drop-down, change the setting from Default to “Document user activation is required” > Relaunch browser.

Now once done, all the videos are disabled to autoplay, and from now you have to manually turn them on.

Turn Off Autoplay in Firefox

Type “about:config” in the URL bar and press Enter.

This will list down all the configuration options.

Search for “autoplay”. and change the value for “media.autoplay.enabled” to False.

AutoPlay will consume more and more data. Sometimes they run in the background also.
