Fix External Speakers Not Working in Windows 10

If your Windows 10 is not recognizing speakers or your external speakers then you are not alone. We faced this issue too. Windows 10 brings new features but it causes many errors related to drivers in Windows OS.

You might be curious to know how to fix this external speaker are not working issue. Speakers not showing up in playback devices is one of the commonly reported issues.

How to solve External Speakers Not Working Problem

If USB speakers not working then try connecting speakers to another computer if it works then there is some problem with your USB port.

Secondly, you should make sure that the speakers are connected or plugged into the right jack. Many computers have three or more jacks that connect to the sound processor. Your speakers should be plugged into the line-out jack. If it does not work there then try plugging into all the jacks.

Method 1- Check Speaker Volume

If Windows 10 not recognizing speaker error is still prevailing then the first method you can try is checking for the speaker volume if it isn’t muted.

Step 1- Go to Volume Mixer by pressing Win+X keys simultaneously.

Step 2- Now click on Control Panel. And click on Hardware and Sound.

Step 3- Under Sound menu, click on Adjust system volume.

Step 4- When Volume Mixer opens then move the slider up to increase the volume.

If the problem does not lie here then you can try the next method.

Method 2- Set Speakers as Default

Windows 10 speakers not plugged in the problem can also be solved by setting speakers as default.

Step 1- Right-click on the speaker icon present at the bottom right corner of the desktop.

Step 2- Click on Playback devices.

Step 3- Highlight the Speakers > click on Set Default.

If you do not see the speakers > right-click on the blank area > select Show disabled devices.

Step 4- Right-click on the Speakers > Enable.

Method 3- Use Windows Troubleshoot

Step 1- Open Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot audio playback.

Step 2- Advanced and enable the Apply repairs automatically > Next.

Step 3- Now computer play sound normally.

Method 4- Uninstall the Audio Driver

Follow these steps to check whether the audio drivers are working properly or not.

Step 1- Open Run dialogue box.

Step 2- Type devmgmt.msc > open Device Manager.

Step 3-  In Device Manager choose the category “Sound, video and game controllers“.  Now right-click on your sound card device name > Uninstall.

Step 4- Confirm the uninstallation > Delete the driver software > OK.

Step 5- Reboot PC.

You can also do this task by updating the driver with Driver Update Tools.

So these were few methods that you can hit on for solving this external speaker problem.
