How to Fix Start Button Not Working After Windows 10 Update

If you have recently upgraded to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update then you might have come across the Start Button not working. The error Start Button not working after Windows 10 update makes it impossible for you to work or get handy on Start menu. Well, in that case, you are not alone. When you start your PC generally the Start button stops responding and hence you are asked to fix the Start menu not working error.

Fix Start Button Not Working After Windows 10 Update

There are many causes linked to this problem that varies on different combinations of PC. So if the problem is not getting rolled out then it is high time you should start trying the effective methods given below.

Method 1- Use PowerShell

If restarting the Windows 10 PC does not works then you need to work a little harder. Reinstalling the built-in applications using Powershell works in bringing the normal Start menu back to functionality.

Step 1- Right-click on the Start menu icon. This will open the contextual menu. Or you can click the Start menu and then scroll down to W category. This will open the Windows PowerShell.

Step 2- Select the Command Prompt Window.

Step 3- Type in the following commands as mentioned below-

Powershell – press Enter.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”} – Press Enter.

Wait for few minutes till the command runs. Restart your PC and see if a problem is resolved.

Method 2- Sign-Out of your Account

Microsoft recommends that the users should try signing out of their accounts in order to fix Start button issues.

Step 1- Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete simultaneously.

Step 2- Then select Sign out.

Step 3- Sign back into your account to see if the issue has been resolved.

Method 3- Create new local admin account

You can also try creating the new local admin account to fix the start menu option.

Step 1- Click on the Start menu icon.

Step 2- Then click on Settings. This will open the app.

Step 3- Now Select Accounts > Family & other users > Other users.

Step 4- Next click on Add someone else to this PC menu.

Step 5- Select the option I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.

Step 6- Then select Add a user without a Microsoft account.

Step 7- Add in a username, password details.

Step 8- Finally click on Next > Finish.

Look for the problem if it gets solved or not.

Method 4- Registry Editor Tweak

If the PowerShell command solution fails to fix the unresponsive Start button then you can try the Registry Editor tweak. But before the registry tweak, you must take the back-up you registry first.

Step 1- Go to Search menu. Then type regedit command. This will open Registry Editor.

Step 2- Follow the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ ImmersiveShell\Launcher

Step 3- Click Edit -> New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value, and then name it as UseExperience.

Step 4- Double-click on the newly created item and set the value to 0.

Step 5- Click OK to save changes.

Step 6- Then close the Registry Editor. And restart your computer

You will now get rid of the Start button error.

Method 5- Reset Windows 10 device.

Resetting Windows 10 device is also one of the options that you can hit on to solve the Start menu not working error.

Step 1- Go to the Settings app.

Step 2- Then click on Update & Security.

Step 3- Now Choose recovery option.

Well this resetting should be your last resort but it is quite an accurate method to try on.

So these were all the methods that you can hit on. Just follow the steps as mentioned and you are done with fixing the start button not working after Windows 10 Update.
