It was well in the news that Uber was struggling with the fiasco that it got itself into. With, the removal of its CEO primarily on the basis of a sexual harassment accusation against him, then the possible person for the seat of CEO withdrawing, it felt that this blunder would never end. But it has, fortunately. The turmoil has finally been quieted.
It seems that the decision for the candidate for the CEO of the company has been taken. According to the reports, it was taken on this Sunday. But the company has made no official announcement regarding it. The board members have chosen Mr Khosrowshahi as their Chief Executive Officer. He is set to replace Travis Kalanick who resigned because of investor pressure. Barry Diller who is the chairman of Expedia said in the internal memo that “Nothing has yet been finalized, but having extensively discussed this with Dara, I believe it is his intention to accept.”
Big names like Hewlett Packard, Meg Whitman and General Electric chairman Jeff Immelt were considered for this position. With Immelt ruling himself out of the race and Ms Whitman stating her disinterest in the job, the ride hailing company battled many scandals and had said to come to a decision.
The former CEO stood down in the month of June. The Company’s board has been meeting daily with the aim to pick a new leader as soon as possible. And by the looks of it, this move was duly required. Mr Khosrowshahi has been the chief executive officer of an online travel firm called Expedia from 2005. The share price of Expedia fell by 4.3% to $142.84 in Monday trading.
So, if at all this news is true, then the latest CEO will have a lot of things on his plate for the time being. As the company has suffered a lot. Uber will require corporate image reconstruction, improving relations with investors, and create a pathway for a profitable business after years of incurring losses.
I guess, the company is done with the worst of the problems, now it only has to face the struggle to reinvent itself. If done under the guidance of the right leader, the company will be back on its track before you know it. Let us all wish them luck.
