Just like any other day, we have got news for you today as well. In today’s news section, there is a blunder of a breach that we have covered. The gaffe ended up costing the company a lot of time as it had to indulge in legal formalities later on.
We just came to know that A US court has now ruled lawsuits against Yahoo regarding the pair of massive hacks can move forward. This was stated by Reuters. This lawsuit concerns the two significantly big breaches that happened in Yahoo. One of them took place in the year of 2013 which affected more than a billion users. The second blow came the following year, that is in 2014. This breach impacted around 500 million accounts.
In the month of December, there was a judicial panel which consolidated five putative class action suits which represent account holders who had e-mails, passwords and other sensitive intel which were compromised. The company has come to its defence by dismissing the lawsuit altogether. They have said that the victims did not have the legal standing to bring the case. This assertion was rejected by the US District Judge Lucy Koh. She made the following comment regarding her decision “All plaintiffs have alleged a risk of future identity theft, in addition to loss of value of their personal identification information.” the judge did dismiss some of the claims and is now giving the plaintiffs an opportunity in order to help their complaint against the mega company Yahoo.
This ruling seems to be a big blow to Verizon, now being owned by Yahoo. Verizon was seen reducing its acquisition offer by $350 million. After the disclosure of the breaches, there was a purchasing of the site for $4.48 billion in cash. It sure is a fancy amount.
Well, this is all we know about the Yahoo scenario as yet. The matter is almost sorted and managed.
